Lay Employees – Pay Banding Framework
1. Purpose and Rationale
The Exeter Coast and Country Methodist Circuit affirms the dignity of all work and the importance of fair remuneration that reflects justice, stewardship, and care for one another.
This Pay Banding Framework ensures that lay employees within the Circuit are remunerated in a manner consistent with:
- The principles of the Methodist Church Lay Employment Handbook;
- The Real Living Wage as set annually by the Living Wage Foundation; and
- A commitment to recognising differing levels of skill, responsibility, and local cost-of-living.
The framework provides transparent criteria for four pay levels — Living Wage, Enhanced Living Wage, Extended Living Wage, and Professional / Specialist Rate — reflecting increasing levels of responsibility, complexity, and qualification.
